Meaning: In the right form/shape. Cooked to perfection. Mature idea or concept.
This Tamil word, like most others, could mean one of many things depending on the context it is used. We choose this because our sweets and snacks are cooked to perfection. Our business model is an evolution in fair trade, where everything is disclosed. This word symbolizes us, our product and our modus operandi (business model).
Thus Patham.
When we saw first light,
Moving out of our mother's womb,
From the warmth of the dark chamber,
To a world unknown,
We were naked.
Born naked, with nothing to hide.
We happily displayed our naked bodies, Yet, didn't feel a thing about it.
We were babies then.
Infancy subsided; childhood crept in,
We were told to cover our naked bodies,
Said that was manners, so we did.
We covered up.
What starts with clothes,
Soon moves on to petty cover-ups,
White lies that seem to affect none,
But thyself, for it corrupts only thy soul.
Unknowingly we grow up,
We're told, there's personal space,
Everyone has secrets,
Isn't healthy to be trusting.
Until the civilized lot forgot trust,
These were told over and over again.
Open book is no more the norm,
Hidden secrets is the in thing.
There's lack of trust in love,
In relationship, in trade and all else imaginable.
From a father who won't disclose his financial hardship,
To a kid who doesn't talk about his crush.
This has become the cancer,
It spreads across the entire planet,
Across all social groups and hierarchy,
Devouring humanity from within.
Yet, humanity survives,
For there are kind hearts all around.
From feeding the crows to humans,
From sheltering a pup to a homeless.
A lost and found pen,
A returned wallet,
A loving hug,
A helping hand.
From saving neighbors during flood,
To stepping out for social justice,
All acts small and big,
Proves compassion exists, truth survives.
It is this compassion, we trust.
Yes, we trust.
We trust our customers.
We trust our partners.
We trust our products.
We trust our values.
We trust the truth in all of us.
We trust the higher form, unexplained.
In humanity, we trust.
Thus we're naked,
For we've nothing to hide,
No secrets,
No price kept unfair,
No partner kept in dark,
No ingredient ever hidden,
No cost undisclosed.
We're unafraid,
For this is no competition, it's an idea.
A participatory business model,
Where everything is naked.
An evolution in fair trade,
A step towards trusting relationships.
We believe, Patham is the first of many startups to come, that will embrace a participatory business model. Where every individual involved in the business, from actual producer to consumer is aware of each other. They'll be aware of who the participants are, where the product is made, how it's made, what is the environmental impact, what is the social impact (wealth share), etc.
All these are to ensure the consumer is made aware of what goes on behind their purchase decision.
Knowing all the parties involved in the transaction means that, everyone involved will know each others name and address. This will ensure a consumer knows where it's produced, who markets it, who distributes it, who retails it, etc; disclosing all the layers between them and the actual producer. This adds accountability on all the parties involved and helps build trust.
Knowing where/how something is made, helps consumers understand what impact the product has on the environment (whether it's produced ethically or by polluting the environment). It also helps understand the ingenuity that goes behind making it, which in turn would rekindle the art of creation.
Everyone will know the costs involved and the way it's shared. Meaning; what consumer pays for the product, what was paid to the producer/marketer/distributor/retailer, and all such will be disclosed. This ensures there's a fair price for the end product/service and that wealth is shared in a collectively acceptable manner.
In this business model, there's space for everyone to express their imagination; be it a consumer, a producer or anyone in-between. A product innovation or a revolutionary concept (in marketing/distribution/service) might manifest from an involved participant. All doors are open, all we ought to do is imagine a better tomorrow, where we contribute to change
