Visit to besant nagar beach to witness the turtle hatchling release:

Yesterday evening a few of us went to besant nagar to watch the turtle 🐢 hatchlings to be released in water. Before reaching that place all I wanted was to show something interesting to my kid. But now it's very different. I saw
how we humans have touched and spoiled the life of every living being on the earth.
How dangerous we are and we are making everything endangered.
How every beauty of nature is commercialized and consumed.
The mother turtle lays eggs and returns back to the sea in the hope that its beautiful little babies will join the sea in course of time. It hides the eggs from the vision of known predators. What it doesn't know is there are more monstrous predators on the coast, we humans who are capable of and willing to wipe them entirely.
We poach, we fish, we hunt, we kill mindlessly and enormously. We encroach on all other beings' territory. We make them extinct. We feed everyone our trash.
When are we going to know we can't live alone on these earth. When are we going to realise we are a part of a circular ecosystem and not a hierarchical one. When are we going to value every other lives as our own. When are we going to love every being on earth as our child.
We are earth's belongings and it's high time earth can throw us out any moment. Sometimes I secretly wish this to happen.
We saw hundreds of turtles making their way to the waters....let there be strength for them to swim and survive. When they come back again to the shores let there be at least some mindful changes within us. Else let us not be. - Reshma
If any of you are interested in visiting the event you can check the above website for details. It happens in besant nagar everyday until the end of April. Timing is around 5.30 to 7 in the evening....we can oly watch the turtles walk to the waters and we can't touch or handle them. They will give a small talk about the turtles, their habitat and why is there a necessity to intervene in this process....
__________
Ridley Turtles venturing in to the sea for the first time with the help of volunteers. they will be braving out against waves, pollution and predators. The unceasing activities of humans in the name of development and growth has led to a drastic reduction in their population. it seems the water of marina stretch coastline is one of the most polluted because of all the dumping of the chennai city's waste yet the ridley tortoise still comes and lays its eggs three times in a season(jan to march). volunteers says out of thousand eggs only one survives. With this kind of attack by humans on the natural cycle where each species depends on the other for its survival it is no time we will also end up extinct just like them. https://www.instagram.com/p/CqpBRMzBT7I/ - Balamurali
