Introduction
Agathi, an organization with over a decade of experience in sensitizing children to environmental issues through sustainable workshops, is launching a transformative 3-month Youth Fellowship Program In memory of CPR. This initiative aims to empower young leaders to address the climate emergency by raising awareness among children and driving impactful climate action projects. By providing financial stipends, mentorship, and resources, Agathi seeks to nurture a cadre of passionate youth committed to environmental stewardship and community resilience.
Memories of CPR:
C.P. Ramachandran (CPR) was a self-made luminary whose life exemplified the transformative power of knowledge, compassion, and steadfast determination. Known for his radiant smile and lively conversation, he approached every encounter with an eagerness to learn and an irrepressible drive to share his wisdom with others. His passion for books was boundless—he treasured them not just as sources of knowledge but as legacies to be preserved, meticulously saving every volume he read, from his childhood textbooks to advanced works, to benefit those around him.
CPR’s contributions to society were profound and far-reaching. He was the driving force behind the construction of the LC 29 Tambaram Sanatorium Bridge, a testament to his commitment to public welfare. By filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and triumphing in the courtroom, he showcased his relentless spirit and ability to effect change against all odds. This victory was just one of many instances where he tirelessly rallied communities for social causes, proving himself a hard worker and an unyielding fighter who never compromised on his principles.
His love for nurturing young minds was equally remarkable. Passionate about instilling a scientific temperament in children, Ramachandran captivated them with magic shows, riddles, and interactive games, turning learning into an adventure across schools and communities. As a dedicated state and district office bearer of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum, he travelled extensively, volunteering his time to organize educational events, most notably the National Children Science Congress. Through these efforts, he inspired countless students to embrace curiosity and critical thinking.
CPR lived as a beacon of integrity and inspiration, courageously upholding his beliefs and leaving an indelible mark on everyone he touched. Though he is no longer with us, his vibrant legacy endures—his memories remain as fresh as ever, a source of motivation that will echo through generations. This fellowship, established in his honour, celebrates his extraordinary life and his unwavering dedication to creating a better world.

Introduction:
The Urgency of Climate Action & the Power of Youth
Building upon Agathi's long-standing commitment to environmental awareness and youth empowerment, this proposal addresses the defining crisis of our time: the climate emergency. It poses unprecedented threasts to our planet and future generations. Addressing this challenge requires urgent and collective action, and young people are at the forefront of demanding change. Their passion, creativity, and determination are vital in raising awareness, developing innovative solutions, and building a sustainable future.
This proposal outlines a 3-month youth fellowship program designed to empower young individuals to become active agents in addressing the climate emergency. By providing them with financial support, mentorship, and a platform for action, we aim to cultivate a generation of climate leaders who can drive meaningful change within their communities and beyond.
About the Youth Fellowship Program:
Igniting Awareness & Action
This fellowship program will identify and support passionate youth (aged 18-25) who are committed to working on climate emergency issues. The program will focus on two key areas:
Climate Emergency Awareness among Children: Fellows will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement engaging initiatives aimed at educating children about climate change, its impacts, and the importance of environmental stewardship. This could involve developing age-appropriate educational materials, conducting workshops in schools, or creating interactive online content.
Efforts to Address the Climate Emergency: Fellows will also be encouraged to develop and implement their own projects and initiatives that directly address the climate emergency within their communities. This could include projects focused on:
Promoting sustainable practices (e.g., waste reduction, energy conservation).
Advocating for climate-friendly policies.
Implementing nature-based solutions (e.g., tree planting, community gardens).
Developing innovative technological solutions.
Program Structure:
A Journey of Learning and Impact
The 3-month fellowship program will incorporate the following key components:
Stipend Support: To enable dedicated participation and contribution, each selected fellow will receive a monthly stipend ranging from INR 15,000 to INR 25,000. The exact amount will be determined based on the fellow's experience, project proposal, and the overall budget availability. This financial support will help cover their living expenses and allow them to focus on their fellowship activities without undue financial burden.
Mentorship: Each fellow will be paired with an experienced mentor working in the field of climate change, environmental education, or related areas. Mentors will provide guidance, support, and feedback on the fellows' projects, helping them develop their skills and maximize their impact. This will involve regular one-on-one meetings, virtual check-ins, and access to the mentor's network and expertise.
Training & Workshops: The program will include online, or in-person workshops and training sessions led by experts on topics such as:
Climate science and its impacts.
Effective communication and awareness strategies.
Project management and implementation.
Community engagement and mobilization.
Advocacy and policy influencing.
Monitoring and evaluation of climate initiatives.
Peer Learning & Networking: Fellows will have opportunities to connect with each other, share their experiences, and collaborate on projects. This will foster a supportive and inspiring environment for collective learning and action.
